 Ben's Game
An organization called the Make-a-Wish Foundation gives children that have a life threatening disease a wish of all their wishes. Some children wish to meet famous movie stars, professional athletes, or even the President of the United States. Ben Duskin is a nine-year-old boy that has fought Leukemia and it's now in remission (Doctors have killed the cancer but there's still a chance that it can come back). His wish was to create his own video game so that other kids going through treatment for cancer or other diseases can relieve the pain and stress that the treatments can cause. Ben credits video games as one of the things to help him through the treatments, hospital stays, and just the pain and stress chemotherapy can cause.

So with the help of LucasArts, Ben has developed a game that works on both Windows and Mac OS X. The game is in beta right now and is a free download. The website is http://www.makewish.org/ben and I hope that we can get some of the 2GAMAAW fans to help participate in making this game a success - not only for Ben but for other kids that may go through what Ben has and can get some enjoyment out of Ben’s Game.

I downloaded it, and it's not bad. It's easy to controll and is very low violence (this is intended for children remember). I haven't figured out the object of the game, but I didn't read the "how to play" either.

To me, games should be played, not read!

I've been playing it too. Everyone should read the background, it makes much more sense. The shields are against side-effects of chemo, and the monsters represent things like bleeding (vampire), fever (firemonster), etc. the point is to gather all the shields, defeat all the monsters, and destroy the mutated cells. Oh yah, and use the textures folder to create your own characters. Currently I have Ben sporting the head of Bob Ross from the Joy of Painting...

You mean there's actually a game for he Mac!

Jonahan 5/14/04, 8:58 PM EDT
I think you meant He-Mac. Yes, it's called "He-Mac and the Masters of the Universe Go The The Pet Store". It's a puzzle solving game otherwise known as edutainment.

"By the power of Cupertino, I HAVE THE POWER!"

I always thought that battle cry was sort of redundant as well as saying the same thing twice, no?

Jobless 5/14/04, 10:31 PM EDT
I meant "The mac." But I like the He-Man talk.

Jobless,
You're a jerk. Humor like yours is not needed as this kid is just trying to live out his dream

Jonahan 5/25/04, 2:02 PM EDT
Yeah, good point Adam, I was being nice but maybe I shouldn't have been.

This is a really cool game for a cool kid. Not too many other kids think of something this great to help out others. Kudos to LucasArts for taking the time and effort to work with him and make something like this.

Now, if someone can help me get past the 1st level, I'd be really appreciative...

 Deep Thoughts
If you're a circus clown, and you have a dog that you use in your act, I don't think it's a good idea to also dress the dog up like a clown, because people see that and they think, "Forgive me, but that's just too much."
