 R.I.P. Virgin Electronics.
Holy crap! Wian9k posted an article! Head for the hills!

No need to riot people...indeed, I am back. Sorry I was gone for so long...I died for a while. But I'm all good now, so you lucky bastards get to hear my valued input.

Anyhoo, I know this is a bit late, but I couldn't resist poking fun at those obsolete non-iPod "music players." I ran this story on my site a while back, and figured it was hilarious enough for the masses.

Engadget Reports that "Virgin Electronics is dead...the company failed to receive additional funding from parent Virgin Group and that they’re quietly discontinuing all of their product lines."

Is anybody else smiling with glee?

It seems as though Virgin Electronic, a company that produced a non-iPod obsolete mp3 player, called the "Player 5GB" (real creative name, guys), is slowly withdrawing products from the market, and has stopped production.

See? This is what happens when you try to compete with the iPod.

"We’ve just gotten confirmation from their PR rep that the company failed to receive additional funding from parent Virgin Group and that they’re quietly discontinuing all of their product lines (mainly MP3 players and portable speakers). They definitely did not get all sentimental about ending things—it’s only been about five months since they first introduced their 5GB MP3 Player, so we’re guessing sales must have been way, way worse than they’d expected.", the report states.

That pretty much sums it up. Basically, this wanna-be iPod "killer" got whacked by the iPod.

But instead of explaining it in words, I took the liberty of creating an "artist's representation" of what happened:

Heh heh. I love that. So sorry, Virgin Electronics...Rest in Peace. You never had a chance.
