Review: iPod Shuffle Case by OtterBox |
 |
While participating in activity, there is one iPod that outshines all other iPods. That iPod is the iPod Shuffle. It is much better for listening to music while being active because, unlike other iPods, it is flash based, meaning it does not have any moving parts. So while a sudden movement or drop may cause serious damage to another iPods hard drive, the flash based iPod shuffle will survive such an event much more often. This does not mean the iPod Shuffle is impervious to damage, quite the contrary. With those thoughts in mind, OtterBox's new case for the iPod Shuffle may just be the most useful iPod case yet. I have been using this case for 2 weeks while riding my bike and its performance has been stellar.
Like the other iPod cases from OtterBox this case is Waterproof, dustproof, dirtproof, sandproof, and drop-proof. It has a nice rubber membrane over the controls allowing full control of the device.

Also the back of the case has a button that allows you to check the battery status, and the case allows a full view of the slider position. It does not, however, allow you to change the slider position without taking the player out of the case. A minor, but noteworthy inconvenience that has to exist in order to keep the case water tight. |
One feature that is included with the other OtterBox iPod cases that is missing from this case is the belt clip, mainly because there is no room on the back to have the belt clip and still have a view to the slider position and battery check. While I think this would have been a great addition to the case, the armband (Sold Separately) more then makes up for the lack of the belt clip. It is very comfortable and has proven to be very effective during long bike rides. |

No review of anything claiming to be waterproof would be complete without submerging the product in water. So, once again, I put my iPod on the line for the benefit of the wonderful readers of this website and put this case to the test. (aren't I a saint, and not to mention terribly modest?) I submerged the case in a glass of water for 60 seconds, and when I opened the case, it was as dry as when I put it in there.
If you are considering an iPod for use during exercise or other activity, I suggest the iPod Shuffle. And to protect that Shuffle, I highly recommend the iPod Shuffle Case from OtterBox. It provides the absolute best protection for your precious iPod Shuffle. I give the iPod Shuffle case by OtterBox 5 out of 5 pants.

Otterbox products kicks ass. I don't concern myself with the waterproof because I don't swim with my iPod but the case will keep your iPod safe with the hard outer shell.

Intriguing. So where are these otters that were promised in the brochure? Did the water taste of otter? (say that 10x fast) And what of the lesser known PETO, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Otters - do they know of this product? I'll hang up and listen for your response.
