Review: 30/40/60 GB iPod Case by Otter Box |
A little over a month ago, we reviewed the iPod Mini case by Otter Box, and we loved it. It got our highest recommendations, and was well deserved. So when Otter Box released a version of that same case for the regular iPods, we had to get our hands on it. We had high expectations for this case, and it lived up to them.
The case is constructed just like it's smaller counterpart, and has the same features. it's waterproof, has a removable belt clip, cable management, screen and click wheel protection, and it is the sturdiest case money can buy. But one thing I noticed about this version is that it rectified the only complaint I had with the last case. The click wheel cover no longer requires you to apply extra pressure, and it feels much more natural. |
The case comes with two foam inserts (with an adhesive backing) for use with the 30 and 40 GB iPods to deal with the difference in thickness between the three models. (The 60 GB version uses no insert.) This not only helps keep the iPod click wheel flush with the membrane, but also provides added protection for impacts. |
However, the most important feature of this case (as I see it) is that it is waterproof. So I wanted to run a similar test for this as I did last time.
First I stuffed the inside of the case with Kleenex. and filled a container with water and blue food coloring.
Then I submerged the case for 60 seconds.
When the Kleenex came out of the case, it had no blue water on it.
Then I got brave, and put the iPod in the water for 60 seconds. It was still dry when it came out.
Just as the other case, this isn't a full time solution. The case is quite bulky and there is no way to connect the dock connector to the case while the iPod is in there, but then again, this case isn't designed to be a full time solution. This case is simply the best way to protect your beloved iPod in all reasonable conditions. Period.
This case gets a well deserved 5 out of 5 pants.
