Friday Rumor Roundup |
|
Every Friday I plan on assembling a list of the biggest rumors from the Mac Web, in the interest of giving us all something to look forward to next week! Here we go:
PowerPC 970 (G5) Chip - MacDailyNews helped everyone out by translating a Macbidouille.com article which basically stated that G5 production will begin in earnest on April 15th. (As this happens to be my Birthday, I'm one happy camper! 'Course I'd be happier if Apple sent me a G5 system...)
PowerMac G5's - It's anyone's guess as to when Apple will ship PowerMac's with the new G5 chips.
Updated 15" PowerBook - MacWhispers talks about it here. Word on this is that it will happen SOON.
iBooks: Again, "Soon" is the key word. Apparently there will be minor speed-bumps of up to around 900Mhz, claims ThinkSecret. (And perhaps NEW iBooks with G4's in time for the CREATE conference?)
iPod - iPod2's rumored release is 'end of April'. It's said to have 10GB,15GB, and 30GB drives and will ship with 'iPod2 Docks'. Here's a rendering of it.
These next three are for the most part tied together:
Apple buying Universal Music Group? MacDailyNews gives us the scoop on this, and their take is that this probly won't happen. Maybe. Or something.
Apple Music Service - AppleInsider claims it will be launched this month.
iTunes Update - This rumor comes from RAILHead Design. It gives some credence to the Apple Music Service possibility, but consider this info from MacOS Rumors (From their April 2nd update):
We may be waiting for Apple's music download service until the release of Panther, because it may not be directly tied to iTunes as previously thought -- but rather, part of a larger Apple direct-sales initiative implemented within the OS itself! This would not only allow Mac OS X users to buy and immediately download music from Apple, but it would also include software sales in the initial release and could later expand to movies/television, streaming content, and virtually any other form of commercial data!
Safari - An AppleInsider article gives us info on the recent builds and states that it is being called "Safari 1.0 Beta 2". It may not be long now before Public Beta 2 hits our hands, and we may have the final version by the CREATE conference...ya think?
Apple Tablet - I haven't been able to dig up any new info about this since last week. Here are the reports by SpyMac and MacWhispers on the rumored device. (And here are my thoughts and some other excellent comments as well)
Minor iMovie Update - As reported by SpyMac
If I missed anything, let me know!

I can't really say much because I haven't used a 17", but I read a review that said it was pretty nice - you can rest your whole arm on it. But then, maybe he was a midget.
