 Snap to Grid
Here's a tip that's better than a swift punch in the kidney:

As most know, Apple included the 'Snap to Grid' feature is OS X (it's under View -> Show View Options). Well, if you're like me and you don't have it turned on by default, you can do it on a case-by-case basis. To do it, select a bunch of icons. Now click on one of them and hold down the Apple/Command key (y'know the one with the flower lookin' thing on it). Now release the mouse button and Apple key and Voila! Instant 'Snap to Grid'!

Editor's Update: This tip is NOT better than a swift punch in the kidney.

 Deep Thoughts
To us, it might look like just a rag. But to the brave, embattled men of the fort, it was more than that. It was a flag of surrender. And after that, it was torn up and used for shoe-shine rags, so the men would look nice for the surrender.
