Gateway To Do Everything Apple Does |
|
A recent announcement by Gateway states that the company is going to "look at what Apple does, then do the same thing 6 months to a year later, but do it with no style or class whatsoever". This comes on the heels of Gateway's Thursday announcement of it's "Rip, Mix, Respect" campaign. For those who don't know, over 2 years ago Apple Computer launched a "Rip, Mix, Burn" campaign that was centered around updated iMacs with CD-RW drives and iTunes software.
Gateway's CEO, Ted "Theodore" Waitt, claims that this plan is needed for Gateway at a time when the economy and industry are both faltering, mainly because, as he puts it, "We don't have one original thought between us. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch." He then stated, "We're going to innovate our way through this". When we told him that's what Steve Jobs said a while back about the recession, Mr. Waitt responded with: "Um, yeah....by innovating I mean, uh...pretty much doing what everybody else is doing - but just not nearly as well. That last part is KEY."
Gateway has a long tradition of ... shall we say, "rip-ovating". In April of 2002, Gateway debuted a lineup of Titanium...or excuse me, Platinum computers that borrowed heavily from Apple's laptop look. In the summer of 2002, Gateway decided to go one step further and create the Profile 4 - a hideous cross-breed of a 20th Anniversary Mac and an iMac. Gateway even went so far as to claim that the Profile was superior - but the tests they used were somewhat unfair.
Future plans for Gateway include creating a crappy-looking MP3 player that crashes a whole lot, putting a logo of some type of fruit on all of their products, and finally -in the latter half of 2005- going out of business. |

How is Gateway even in business? Did anyone really buy their iMac ripoff or any other product from them in the last 3 years?

Nice Bill ;)
Gateway does blow. MacObserver makes a good point though, that at least they're making a stand for the consumers rights to do what they want with the music they buy.

Yeah, all those PC companies suck. It's too bad that Apple chooses not to compete with them on price tho :(
