A Food Fight Is Brewing |

It seems like the Mac Web (including the 2GAMMAW staff) is utterly lethargic, and that's completely understandable. Heck, after days of stuffing your face and then sitting around with friends and family and alternately conversing, watching football, or playing games, it's only natural for Mac folk to look away from All Things Apple for a bit.
But today we wanted to give you some new content, something to help get you motivated during these lazy days preceding Steve's MacWorld Expo keynote. Only problem was, we couldn't get motivated ourselves, at least until we laid eyes on this nugget of unsubstantiated rumor from audiorevolution.com that totally and completely says, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that "miniPods" are indeed going to be debuted by Steve next week. Probably.
Here's what they have to say: "Sources at an Apple retailer in Los Angeles tell AudioRevolution.com that the rumors of the new budget priced iPod are completely true."
We have no reason not to believe this, and with all the other hype (i.e. ThinkSecret, AppleInsider) it looks like we can pretty much bank on small versions of iPod for under $200 that will probably come in a selection of colors.
The only thing we don't know is the type of storage. Most of the Apple rumor sites were claiming small hard drives of either 2GB or 4GB. audiorevolution.com instead claims the miniPods will have flash memory, which is very expensive (atAT kindly points out that "2 GB of flash RAM is $181" and "4 GB of flash RAM costs about $1200").
Finally! Something going on in the world of Apple that we can all get worked up about! There will be heated chat room debates about whether it'll be Flash-based memory or tiny hard drives. People will argue, and there will be much gnashing of teeth! It'll be better than Rowe vs. Wade, more scintillating than "Tastes Great vs. Less Filling", more divisive than Flutie vs. Johnson, more blood-spilling than Christianity vs. those sinning heathens, more captivating than snipped vs. unsnipped!!!
Who cares about possible iLife updates, G5 Xserves, new displays, or even an Apple-branded tablet: it's all about Flash memory vs. hard drives in the new miniPods. So get off your lazy holiday food-eating duff, break out the pitchforks and riot gear, and get ready for some debatin'! Oh, and also bring along any uneaten sweet potatoes, those things are great for chucking at people. |
