 My Feet Feel Happy
"WOOOW - I feel good!", are the lyrics that just about all Mac fanatics should be singing after Apple's financial conference call yesterday. Apple's CFO, Fred Anderson, revealed all sorts of juicy nuggets of information about the company, as reported by just about everyone on the Web except us. With that in mind, we at 2GAMAAW have the opportunity (as usual) to be the last to post about something, but to do it with a certain flair and panache unheard of since Bootsie Collins strutted the stage with Parliament Funkadelic. (We call it flair and panache, you call it lame humor: potato, potato. Er, never mind - I guess you can't hear how we pronounce stuff with text)

Anyway, instead of actually listening to the entire Quicktime Fredcast, although surely fraught with excitement, we decided to basically just pillage a few other sites. AppleInsider and Think Secret both have good wrap-ups (you should try the chicken ones: deeeee-lish!) and probably the best news is that Apple posted a $63 Million dollar profit - a four year high for the company. Revenue was also up 36% since last year and iPod sales increased 235 percent to 733,000 units total sold. iPods sold so fast that Apple couldn't keep up with holiday demand even though they had ramped up production in anticipation. Apple also stated that no other iLife apps would be ported to Windows, PowerBook sales reached a record high, and the brick and mortar Apple Stores actually netted a profit.

But slow down there Soupy Sales, it's not all sunshine and roses. According to a NY Times report (such buzzkills they are, man) Apple's market share dropped from 3.5% to 3.2%. Apple also acknowledged that some extra warranty expense was due to a known issue where G4 PowerBooks had faint white spots on the displays (and presumably the iBook logic board issue as well), and it was acknowledged that the iMac line is priced a bit too high for the average consumer. Plus, to put things in perspective, HP had 2.5 billion in Linux-related revenue alone.

Yikes.

But I think that's too much of a downer. Let's get back to that feel-good vibe we had going on earlier. And to do that, let's chew on some factoids from AppleInsider:

"Revenues from sales of Panther amounted to over $60 million, exceeding expectations. This represents the best ever first quarter revenue for an Apple OS upgrade."

Yep, feeling good again.

"Apple expects its March quarter will mark the third consecutive quarter of double digit growth in revenue AND earnings."

Ok, feeling the warm fuzzies now - we're good to go! Now it's time to dig in the couch cushions for change to buy some APPL stock, and then do a little happy dance!

Hey I hope Apple and Hp's relationship becomes a even better success than people are saying it will be. Also I think a big price drop for the iMac line will be coming in due time.

"Hey, you got your HP on my Apple!"
"No, you got your Apple on my HP!"
I agree with rlhamon on the iMac price drop. I think we can expect prices to go down toward eMac prices. Of course, they could keep the same prices and just make them better.

Yeah, the iMacs do seem a little over priced now-a-days... when my parents were contemplating getting a new mac, they were between the iMac and the eMac, I couldn't seem to justify the large price jump for the iMac, even though it is faster, and the display is better. Then again, it could just be bceause the emac is just an extreamly well priced machine.

eMacs are great machines for the price. I would like to by an iMac for my kids, but the price is a little high.

What I would love to see come out of Cupertino is a "headless" iMac! All the power and style of the iMac, but no display (remember the cube?). Dat otta drop da price!

If only we can come up with a slogan that gets people equating HP with Hot Pie, and Apple with ... erm, apples! We'll be rich! Rich, I tells ye!
