Microsoft attacking Linux and suing end users?
Microsoft directly is not suing anyone who uses Linux but online sources at  ZDnet  have reported that email has leaked from SCO with info that Microsoft is supplying them with a $70 – 80 million dollar backing to sue end users who use Linux. What this means is if SCO is successful and wins it lawsuit against IBM, Daimler-Chrysler and Autozone, then they could sue every person in the United States whoever downloaded Linux and/or is currently using Linux - depending on the final judgment.

Now why would Microsoft want to help SCO sue companies and
possibly individuals that have used or distributed Linux? Obvious answer is, if the lawsuit would be successful then the whole Linux community and the open source community could and possibly would be broken apart and would no longer exist.

If SCO would be successful then what could stop Microsoft from finishing the purchase of SCO and owning a part of the kernel that runs Linux?  Absolutely nothing!

What would Microsoft gain? Everything! Just think if Microsoft didn’t have to compete with Linux, Microsoft would now control the whole computer industry. [Except for Apple's 3% marketshare or 10+% installed user base - whichever you want to go by - Ed.]

This is a major issue and hopefully the courts will throw the case out and the open source community can continue to grow.

Final thought, Microsoft and SCO were the two companies that were attacked by MyDoom.  I guess we all now know why.

Note: As of March 5, 2004 Apple and Mac OS X are not
affected by this lawsuit.

Ya know, this whole mess really would not look as bad if MS and SCO where not already "in bed together" in the development of Longhorn.

SCO says the email was just a misunderstanding of the facts: http://www.globetechnology.com/se rvlet/story/RTGAM.20040305.gtscomar5/BNStory/Technology/

I totally believe them.

Heheheheeaaaaaahooooooooooooooooo .... ah, I kill myself sometimes!!!

Microsoft new slogan should be ... " at Microsoft if we can't make a product better than the competition ... we'll sue them"

Anony Mouse 3/5/04, 1:48 PM EDT
No it should be.. "All your life are belong to us."

Apple's 10+% installed user base? In your dreams, Macmoron!

rlhamon 3/5/04, 3:08 PM EDT
Umm I think you should do some research before you make a fool out of yourself Bill.

Yeah, Macmoron!....ooops, I thought I was posting as Matt. Sorry.

(I'm a stinker!)

Wow, my dreams are a reality my friends! If that's true then where are the donuts raining from the sky and the thousands of Halle Berry clones?

But actually, it -IS- true that Apple has over 10% of the installed user base. The disparity between that and the 3% marketshare is mostly attributed to (dpending on who you talk to) the long life of Macs compared to the more disposable PC's.

And it's all true, not some vague Mac zealot propaganda. Like rlhamon said, do some research on it.

And I just got that, sweetjimmyhugs - I'm a bit slow, ya know ;)

 Deep Thoughts
I wonder if the polite thing to do is always the right thing to do. When I met the family from Japan, they all bowed. I pretended like I was going to bow, but then I just kept going and flipped over on my back. I did this five times. I think they got the point.
