 Today in Mac News 10/31
Well, it's the beginning of another week, and time for another edition of Today in Mac News.

-The biggest news of the day is that Apple released Mac OS X 10.4.3 update . With fixes for: "AFP, SMB/CIFS, NFS and FTP network file services, AirPort and Bluetooth wireless access, Core Graphics, Core Audio, Core Image, and RAW camera support, disc recording when creating and burning media, .Mac sync services, Spotlight indexing and searching, Dashboard widgets: Dictionary, Flight Tracker, Stickies, and Unit Converter, Address Book, AppleScript, Automator, Dictionary, Font Book, iCal, iSync, Mail, and Safari applications, Disk Utility, Keychain Access, Migration Assistant, and Software Update, compatibility with third party applications and devices, and previous standalone security updates." Hurry up and get your copy before they are all gone!

-Apple announced today that in it's first 20 days of offering videos, the iTunes Music Store has sold it's one millionth video. I don't know what Apples profit is on each video (Apple only makes something like 10 cents on songs) but that is a lot of money in just 20 days. If this keeps up at its current pace, Apple stands to have 18.25 million coming in every year from just videos.

-The Mac Night Owl has A great piece defining the problems with the current finder, and suggestions for what changes are needed. I for one like the way the finder works, when compared to other operating systems (I use Windows on a daily basis at work) but that may be because most of the GUI's in other operating systems are just poor attempts at copying the Mac OS.

-Microsoft has Threatened to withdraw windows from South Korea "if the country's antitrust agency orders it to unbundle its Instant Messenger and Media Player from the operating system." Could someone please tell Microsoft that is less of a threat and more of a gift?

-A week ago yesterday two CRT iMac's got married in ceremony performed by an all in one Performa. The best man was a Quadra, and the Bridesmaid was a LC. Republican senator Tom Coburn has drawn up a bill to make same-manufacturer marriages between computers illegal on the basis that it destroys the sanctity of marriage. He then filed for divorce from his current wife of 23 years.

-It looks like a lot of people want to convert video (porn) for their iPods, because QuickTime pro licenses for Mac & Windows were the third and fourth most popular items on the Apple online store top sellers list today. Someone needs to point them to the second news item in Friday's TiMN.

Well, that's it for today. It seems to be working to compose these links during work and post just before I go home (5 PM Easter Standard Time) but if I am running behind or really busy it might slip in to the evening like it did again tonight. Until tomorrow, take care!

I have to laugh when I think of the first cigar, because it was probably just a bunch of rolled-up tobacco leaves.
