Happy Birthday G5! |
|
As a MacDailyNews article pointed out, PPC 970 chips (better known as G5's) go into mass production today!
It also happens that today is my Birthday, and I have to thank Uncle Steve for such a fantastic gift! Faster processors that will compete with the best that AMD and Intel have to offer....I couldn't have asked for more. Except maybe those damn iPod updates that we've been waiting months for...(grumble).
Now, I'm on the verge of 30 and am feeling a bit old, so in an effort to make myself feel younger, I'm going to use some phrases I hear tell them there kids is using, while at the same time exclaiming my happiness that the G5 is in production:
w00t w00t! Can I get a witness? The G-fizzle is in tha hizzle. Dope. Phat. 'Aight. The G5 is all that and a bag of potato chips. Straight up G-dog. True dat.
Ok, that's enough silly-talk, I'm calmed down now and feeling much better, thanks!
Now, putting my straight face on for just a moment, what models will the G5 be used in, and when? Well, it's no secret that Apple puts the newest and fastest chips in it's Pro models, the PowerBooks and PowerMacs. A MacWhispers article also sheds some more light on this. Basically, the article says that revamped motherboards for the 15.4" PowerBook are in production, and that boards for the 17" PowerBook aren't far behind, plus that PowerMac motherboards for the new PPC 970 have been in production since early April and should be shipping for final assembly right around now.
Will Apple wait to debut the 15" until the 12" and 17" models are ready to ship with a G5? When will the PowerMac G5 be debuted? WWDC? CREATE Conference? We haven't been able to dig up any clues, so your guess is as good as ours. If I had to venture a guess, I would say PowerBooks at WWDC, then PowerMacs at the CREATE Conference in New York.
Whenever it is, we'll soon have access to some seriously smokin' machines! Word.
