Font Smoothing in OS X |
|
Font smoothing is built into OS X 10.2, but for some reason, the default setting is on "Standard - best for CRT". A quick trip into your System Preferences, under the General Panel, will let Flat Panel/LCD Mac owners set it to "Medium - best for Flat Panel".
There are differing opinions here at 2guys about which actually looks better on a Flat Panel - and maybe that's why Apple chose to leave the default setting on CRT. After all, only the eMac and (soon to be discontinued) original iMac have CRT displays.
Of course it could have been a slight oversight by the hard-working programmers at 1 Infinite Loop, but we're thinking it has to do with the fact that Steve Jobs has had the entire programming staff working 24/7, with Caffeine I.V.'s, their eyelids perpetually propped open, and the least productive geeks being thrown into a pit of hungry Jaguars.
What, you seriously think the Jaguar codename for 10.2 was dreamed up by the marketing folks? Pssshaw...come on, really. You're so naive. Why do you think 10.3 was re-named "Panther"? Steve's gotta keep those slackin' coders on their toes somehow. And it'll make for a better OS for all of us. |
