A Friday Music Store Tale |
|
Here's a tale of love and hope, a tale of the separation and subsequent reunion of an Old Man and his beloved sock.
Or perhaps just a story about not being able to buy songs from the iTunes Music Store.
Yes this story is kinda bland and will have the same effect on you as reading a biography of Gilbert Gottfried, but hey it's a Friday, you aint' got a job, and you ain't got nuthin' else to do! (* The previous lame movie reference was modified to fit your screen as well as for content)
Ok, so anyway, the first day that Apple's new Music Service was announced, I went hog wild downloading music. And then I bought some from Apple. (Insert rim shot sound.) But seriously, I did buy 8 songs that first day.
The next day I bought another song, and I must have still been feeling the aftereffects of the RDF because it was a U2 song. I don't even like U2. It was that exclusive acoustic "Stuck in a Moment" track.
Anyhow, about a week later, when I'd saved up some money to purchase more tracks, I was stopped dead in my tracks. I got an error that said there was a "billing problem with a previous purchase", and that I needed to enter my password and correct my billing information. The problem was that Music Store couldn't charge my credit card for the U2 song I had already purchased and downloaded
So I tried modifying my billing information, very futilely I might add, as I kept getting the same error. I then tried a credit card (the normal card I use being my bank's debit card), which for me is like a reformed alcoholic saying, "Aw heck, I can stop at just one drink". So I had that one drink, and then another and another. After waking up the next morning, clearing the cobwebs, and having a little of the hair of the dog that bit me, I realized that this was karma biting me in the ass for buying that U2 song.
I thought about going gangster and launching Acquisition, but that was a long, dark road I had been down before. I'm still not walking straight from the prison sentence.
So buying music legally being my objective, I started looking everywhere for help on this. I searched high and low, through valley and dale, and when Apple's Knowledge Base failed me, I Googled every-which-where. Any other evidence of this problem, I could find hide nor hair. (Wow, I just sounded like Dr. Seuss without knowing - I guess it's because the words were just flowing!)
Next I called Apple's Support line. After talking with 6 people (one of whom actually transferred me to 1-800-SOS-APPLE - the number I had originally called), the only thing I found out was that there is no number for iTunes Music Service support. It's all done via email.
Ok, so I just wasted 30 minutes when all I had to do was go the Help menu within iTunes and then "Music Store Customer Service", where there are forms to contact Apple. Granted, I had already seen this page before, but thought there would be a better/quicker way of getting my issue resolved.
Long story short, er...well, at least a little bit shorter than it could be, I filled out one of the forms and shortly got an email back from Apple saying that "We are aware of this issue and are applying a patch to resolve this as soon as possible." It stated that the patch should be applied this weekend and that I should update my billing info on Monday.
I guess now we'll have to wait and see whether it'll be a patch internally for the Music Store or for iTunes.
And oh yeah, I never did tell you what happened to Sockie! He wandered the streets of Edmonton for weeks before hooking up with a scout for the Boston Padres. He played shortstop for years, winning the Golden Glove twice and playing in 3 All-Star games. He then joined up with a bowl of tomato soup and they found their way back home. The Old Man never took him off again, and he drank the tomato soup. |

That one made me laugh until blood shot out of my nose.

I read it. I read it all the way through. I read it from beginning to end.
I wish I hadn't read it.

To me, boxing is like a ballet, except there's no music, no choreography, and the dancers hit each other.
