Security Update from Apple Fixes Certain Acronyms |
|
Hey holy cow, grab your pants before they fly off! Apple has kept with recent tradition and issued an update today. It's not much - just a security update - but it should help out those of you who're Software Update junkies and couldn't get your buzz over the weekend.
According to Apple, the update fixes "a potential security issue when the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) is used to reshare a Network File System (NFS) mount". It also does some stuff with LDAP and Kerberos or some such thing. I'm not really sure what these acronyms are, but I'm sure the update has something to do with how Jaguar handles long ancronym support. See, some of the UNIX acronyms somtimes don't jive with the straight up Mac acronyms. Some do though, and they go out on dates, eventually get married, and then settle down somewhere in your Home directory to start a family. Yeah, ever wonder what a .DS Store file was and where it came from? Mystery solved.
So any bets on what update will come forth from 1 Infinite Loop on the morrow? My money is on enhanced support for underdeveloped and/or ailing aqua widgets. |

Well this update was wacky for me. Killed my netinfo database when it installed. So no users were there. Sucked pretty bad until I figured out the niload command. Thank Steve for automatic backups!
