Panther: Reader Questions Answered |
|
In a nod to both Think Secret and Crazy Apple Rumors, we're trying something new. We've been researching Apple's forthcoming operating system, OS X 10.3 (a.k.a. Panther), and have solicited questions from our readers. Well, here are some of the best questions and our answers. Enjoy.
I heard that hitting F12 in Panther summons Phil Schiller in a nightgown...is this true?
Pffff. You're crazy. That's pure sillytalk. It summons Phil Schiller in a Speedo.
Can I use more than one Apple wireless mouse with the same Mac in Panther?
No. So you might as well send your extra mouse to us.
Are you guys in the closet or what?
NO ... the non-heterosexual contact is strictly on a platonic, professional level.
I've heard that since Panther can use 64-bit addressing, you can also use up to 8 GB of memory. What other advantages does Panther have, being a 64-bit operating system?
I'm glad you asked that one, Kevin. Panther can do all sorts of things a regular old 32-bit OS can't. For instance, it can step in for you while you're dicing celery and need to take a bathroom break. It can compute the exact odds on if you will hook up with that girl at the other end of the bar - given that you know variables such as how much liquor has been consumed by both parties, the lighting, and whether or not you are a 2GAMAAW regular. On top of that, it has the ability to zap the brains of your enemies (or annoying friends who eat all the cheetos), leaving them in a zombie-like, vegetative state. Don't use this last feature too much though, or your apartment will be as cramped as ours with mindless, drooling, idiots (OTHER than the 2GAMAAW staff).
I don't like the brushed-metal look. Is there a way to go back to the Aqua interface that Jaguar has?
Oh - my - God. What a total wiener. I swear, don't you ever try anything new?!? Just try it out for a while, and you might like it. It's not the end of the friggin' world or anything, it's just the look and feel of the entire operating system. Geesh.
Will I be cooler with Panther installed?
Yes. You will be one fly mo-fo. But you should probably still get that rash checked out.
What should I wear to the Panther release party?
Let me get this straight. You're going to a party ... for a release of ... software? That is soooo ...... freakin' awesome!!!! Can we go? Huh, huh, can we!? We'll be good, we promises! We promises on the precious!
What advantages do you see in Apple going with bash as the default terminal shell as opposed to tcsh?
... ... umm ... I like cheese! |

Shame, Wasabe. Brisbane just beat Collingwood in the AFL grand final for 2003, to become only the fourth team in the history of Australian Rules football to win three grand finals in a row.
You heard it here first ...
[SFX: A single pair of hands clapping slowly in an empty stadium.]

Deep Thoughts |
|
Love can sweep you off your feet and carry you along in a way you've never known before. But the ride always ends, and you end up feeling lonely and bitter. Wait. It's not love I'm describing. I'm thinking of a monorail.
