Poll: Will You Upgrade to Tiger and if so how Much Should You Pay?
With Tiger about to launch any day now I thought I would ask you guys these two questions:

1. If you are currently running Panther are you going to upgrade to Tiger?

2. A new install of Tiger will cost $120, how much should the upgrade cost?

I have always thought that Apple should offer an upgrade version for perhaps 79.00 in addition to the full package. The upgrade version would only upgrade 10.2 and 10.3 installations.

Oh, and yes, I do plan to upgrade to Tiger. I have had a copy preordered with Amazon for a while now.

nhmacusr 4/7/05, 2:56 PM EDT
1. Most definately.

2. $120 dollars is an upgrade price. I hate to say it, but us Mac users are very spoiled by Apple's software pricing and have forgotten how much stuff really costs. Where else are you going to get an enterprise grade OS at that price point? How much do you think the Longhorn upgrade is going to cost people? Apple is in the business to make money. Like it or not, maintaining , developing, and supporting the OS is a drain on company resources and needs to be replenished. You are getting much nore bang for your buck, in my opinion, than any other OS out there.

In the end, if you are patient, you will be able to get it cheaper (Education pricing, Amazon rebate, etc.).

1. Yes
2. Only Spotlight would be worth that money.

1. Yes
2. My dad's work is a great place. Ever heard of borrowing? I'm a good sharer.

Heck ya, I plan to get the family pack.

hdufour 4/7/05, 9:55 PM EDT
1) Yes
2) Its cheaper then Windows XP (full version), so why not?

Definitely will upgrade. Usually I um... how do you say... do some 'cost sharing measures' and do several backups of the original boxed copy with friends (not naming names though to protect the not-so-innocent).

But Tiger seems so worth it that I'd feel guilty not paying for it. You just KNOW that is good software right there, when it's so great it compels you to pay money for it. Plus with Amazon's rebate, you can't really go wrong.

Must get Tiger ASAP. Money? what money. I get it for free. Nothing a good threat can't accomplish. 80(

mycroft 4/8/05, 12:53 AM EDT
1) Yes
2) we have several Macs at work that will all be upgraded. I'll just order an extra copy ;-)

Joe 4/8/05, 10:02 AM EDT
I would like to but I need to verify that the cisco vpn client will work OK. I need that to use it for work which is critical for me.

I won't upgrade from Panther until Tiger is at least to 10.4.3. Jaguar & Panther both sucked until their 3rd updates.

In a perfect world, all upgrades to 10.0 would be free, but this is far from a perfect world...

DJLC 4/8/05, 3:44 PM EDT
OF course. But only if Jonahan can mail me a...

Sure - I'll get it somehow. Old man will probably buy it sometime around 10.4.1

clwilla 4/8/05, 5:34 PM EDT
yep. the day it is released, i will get. I ill pay for the family pack, unless they don't offer a family pck for tiger in which case I will buy one copy and "use" it on the rest of my machines too.

nivla 4/12/05, 12:50 PM EDT
Yep. I got a brand new PowerBook 17-inch that's just aching for Tiger.

peewee 4/13/05, 10:03 PM EDT

If there was a big gardening convention, and you got up and gave a speech in favor of fast-motion gardening, I bet you would get booed right off the stage. They're just not ready.
