 A 17" Widescreen iMac Finds a Home
On October 14, 2003 iKen and myself drove through harsh rain, poor road conditions, and even a little hunger to reach our destination. That destination was the Apple store in Easton (Columbus, Ohio). That day was unlike any other day. I was on a mission, a well thought-out mission. I was going to buy a brand new 17" iMac with the DVD-R.

When we arrived at the Easton store, the employees thought that a pack of wolves was attacking, but it was just iKen running towards the new G5 systems. I was telling him that when I went down two week ago, I saw the new G5 Mac, but I told him that he had to see it for himself to believe it. iKen had to give the Dual G5 his own little test.

One of the most amazing things was the software running on the it. The G5 opened Adobe Photoshop - from click to ready to use - in 7 seconds. Readers, if you have never placed your fingers on a G5, I suggest heading to your nearest Apple Store to do so. So as I left iKen to play on the Dual 2.0 Ghz G5, hoping that he wouldn't short out the keyboard with his drooling, I went to see the demonstration of Soundtrack. Never seeing Soundtrack before, I have to say that program is the Mecca of music editing.

Finally came the moment I was standing by the 17" iMac and was just looking the whole computer over for the hundredth time in two weeks. One of the Apple sales team came over and asked if they could help me. I just blurted out, "yes I want a 17" iMac please!". I must have thrown the sales associate for a loop, because he just looked at me puzzled for a second and then asked if I had any questions. Well, they wheeled that beauty out and I slapped down the cash and that baby was mine.

When iKen and I were walking towards the car we saw a Lerners Store with computerized signs and we could easily tell that those signs were running on a Windows-based computer because they all had the Blue Screen of Death. We got one hell of a kick out of that.

So with the long trip home, and the belching of steak that iKen and I ate during my new Mac celebration, we were ready to set her up. Well, dumb me, I didn't take the time earlier that day to tear down the PC, and come to find out it was an experience just to see how long it took me to tear down the rats nest of cables and bulky computer that I wanted to remove from that desk. Well, finally after thirty minutes of careless ripping of cords to get them out of my way, I had the desk cleared for the new iMac.

Have you ever read reviews about the iMac and the author would say you can't describe the feeling of using an iMac until you sat down in front of it? Well, I can tell you that they're absolutely correct. The widescreen 17" floating LCD monitor is just breathtaking. Combined with the amazingly fast 4X DVD-R and the Ghz G4 processor and well ... to cut it short, it's the best computer that I have ever bought.

If you've been debating on getting a new computer with all of the extra goodies and don't have enough in the piggybank to get a G5, the iMac is the best computer for the buck. I don't feel that I bought the second-in-line computer - I feel that I have bought the best all-around computer for the price. After you consider all of the software and the 17" widescreen LCD and DVD-R the $1799.00 price tag isn't that hard to believe. Of course, if you don't need those extras you can get the 15" for 1299.00, but if you have the extra cash, the 17" is definitely worth it!

HA! Ok, so because a newer Mac (supposedly) opens a program in the same time an older Mac (also supposedly) does ... your conclusion is that Macs suck?!??

LOL!

I've heard bad putdowns before, but this one takes the cake! You're not doing a good job defending Windows or bashing Macs, but you are providing some entertainment!

Thanks!

am I missing something here Jonahan?

Oh, it was deleted, read the shoutbox. :)

there was a troll earlier but it looks like all of his posting have been removed.

As a Feb'03 17" iMac user, I can corroborate your "speechlessness". For the dot on the i, I suggest you install the Marine Aquarium screensaver (serenescreen), at least you'll have a ready excuse for anyone questionning your enraptured gaze: "Just what kind of fish is the third one on the right?"

lkjhokjhlkjh 10/20/03, 8:43 AM EDT
yea [super bad guys] delete my post, guess no free speech on your [poo] site. YOu allow only posts that promote mac.

ps. jonahan you are a total [bad] idiot just [pants] yourself now. suggestion: can a bath with your mac, you can surf the web. i promise you wont get electicuted

Jonahan 10/20/03, 8:57 AM EDT
You said doodoo! ;)

Ok, so you hop on our site, use foul language, are harsh towards individual members of the site, and then you cry foul that we're not allowing free speech??? LOL!

I can only suggest you grow up and/or find something more constructive and positive to do with your time. If you don't like Macs, then go make a Windows site. Whatever you do, don't be a jerk about it. Contribute to humanity - evolve, don't devolve.

Jonahan 10/20/03, 9:18 AM EDT
Oh, for the record, we don't just delete posts that show Macs in a positive light.

We allow anything except for foul language, and abuse.

Anyone who has followed this site for any length of time knows this. Plus, while being huge Apple fans, we also point out the bad things about Macs and Apple. This is probably the most open and unbiased site around, as we have almost all used Windows, Linux, etc. as well as Macs.

If anyone (other than Mr. Superguy here) feels we ARE biased, by all means, let us know!

My 3rd post in one day on this site. First time here actually - great site!

Face it, you're all a bunch of biased beeeyatches. hehe

Back on topic please...

I bought a 17" iMac back in... May, no April, no, oh well not sure. But it was just after the Ghz iMac was released.

Lovin' it. It's da'bomb! (i do miss my ibook though. *sniffle*) Honestly it really is a great machine. I decided to go with the 17" screen so I could watch DVD's on it. I don't own a TV, so watching movies on my 12" iBook screen from across the room was a bit ridiculous. lol Especially trying to watch widescreen movies on that little thing. Whoa Nelly! Where's my binoculars?

Plenty fast. Hoping it'll hold up for a couple of years (like my Mac SE).

Here's a side by side picture of my two all-in-ones...

I wish I had a 17" iMac. All I have is this big, beautiful G5. Kidding aside, the 17" is HOT! It's probably the sexiest computer around. The SE aint bad either.

rlhamon 10/21/03, 2:59 AM EDT
Wow great SE .... love those old Mac's I still turn on the my SE that I bought in a yard sale for like 5 bucks....what a steal

Instead of a trap door, what about a trap window? The guy looks out it, and if he leans too far, he falls out. Wait. I guess that's like a regular window.
