Headhunting Apple Execs |
|
It's been a full 24 hours since Steve Job's keynote speech and many people are still kinda miffed. "Kinda miffed" may be a slight understatement, as throngs of angry Mac faithful are hiding in the bushes outside of 1 Infinite Loop waiting for the next person to leave so they can string him or her up.
I can understand the hostility to a certain extent. Die-hard Mac users (some who have sold more Macs to friends, family and strangers than any salesman at an Apple Store - me being one of them) having to actually PAY for a very useful service called .Mac? Having to shell out $129 for a huge update to the most advanced OS on the face of the earth? Apple has the gall and audacity to charge US - members of the Macintosh cult - for services, software and hardware!?
Some would say Apple is getting like Microsoft, and I'd have to agree to a certain extent. But keep in mind that Apple is a COMPANY, a BUSINESS, and the reason they're in business is to make money. That may sting some die-hards out there, because I know most of you believe in "The Mac Way". This is something that has taken me a while to get used to, but "The Mac Way" is for Apple to make money and gain market share.
Granted, Apple makes the coolest products, has the best OS, does everything with style and class that no one else in the industry even comes close to, not to mention pave the way with the newest technologies, but the (Sad?) fact is that Apple is Apple Computer, Inc. - a hardware and software company.
I'm still a big fan of Apple, and will be for as long as they make the kewlest stuff and keep innovating (and not the cheap, rip-off kind of "innovating" that Microsoft does). That's why we should love Apple Computer - for making all the newest, cool technologies available to us and making our lives easier.
Apple is doing a great job of attracting more users to the Mac platform. With the Switch campaign, all the iSoftware (iTunes, iCal, iSynch, and more...), Jaguar, and the high-profile Apple Stores, market share should increase pretty damn quickly. This may mean a little less love from Apple for the die-hard Mac users, but it will also mean more money in Apple's coffers. More money Apple can spend on iSoftware, OS X, cool new hardware, and reasearch & development.
So to those miffed about Apple's latest moves, go ahead and hunt down those Apple execs if you want to, but I believe Apple is headed in the right direction. Also, AAPL as a stock is down right now...time to buy all you can and hold on for the ride! |

Deep Thoughts |
|
If you're at Thanksgiving dinner, but you don't like the stuffing or the cranberry sauce or anything else, just pretend like you're eating it, but instead, put it all in your lap and form it into a big mushy ball. Then, later, when you're out back having cigars with the boys, let out a big fake cough and throw the ball to the ground. Then say, "Boy, these are good cigars!"
