Apple Selling iPod minis in Taiwanese 7-11's |
|
This just in: The Mac Observer notes that MacWorld UK pointed out the fact that Taiwan Daily News stated that Apple will open a flagship retail store and two smaller retail stores in Taiwan. In addition, Apple struck a deal with convenient store 7-11 to sell iPod mini's in various locations throught the island.
That's right, in addition to getting a slurpee and some Ho-ho's, Taiwanese 7-11 customers can participate in the ultimate impulse buy of all, the iPod mini. We can hear the store clerk now, "Ok, one Big Gulp, some gummy worms and a silver iPod Mini - that'll be $10,934 TWD. Oh, I forgot your cigarettes, that'll be $12,723 TWD."
Seriously though, we kid. Even we couldn't make up something as ridiculous as Apple selling iPod minis in a 7-11 store. See, we saw the sentence, "In addition, the company will also start selling silver iPod minis through 7-11 locations located across the island.", which obviously means they'll sell them in 7 to 11 locations, and we decided to make a little play on words. But obviously that's not the case. Right?
Wait a minute ... (* reads the article again *) ... 7-11 IS going to sell iPod minis!
Now this just seems too weird. Yeah, Taiwan is pretty technologically advanced, but still, to sell a US$250 music player in a "Quickie Mart" designed to sell drinks and food, well, it just seems kind of odd.
Then again, I suppose the iPod minis could pass for lighters, and having been a smoker, I know how easily those get lost. This scene will probably replay itself thousands of times at 7-11's across Taiwan: "Damn, where the hell did I put my iPod mini? I must have loaned it to someone and they never gave it back! Ah well, I'll just buy a couple while I'm here. Ok, let me have 2 of the pink ones and 1 green."
So, Apple selling iPod minis in Taiwanese 7-11's: sheer brilliance. Now if Apple could only make them pine-scented and tree-shaped. |

When are American 7-11 stores going to get in on this deal? Can you imagine a store that sells the iPod mini on almost every street corner in America? That would be the bombest!

Is it me, or is it just that 7-11 is different from the convenience store chain 7-Eleven?

Probably ;-)
Research time has been scarce lately, but time to just run with stupid articles has been plenty.
There may well be a 7-11 computer store or something in Taiwan that we'd never heard of. Apologies if this is the case, but hey, how cool would it be if they did sell iPods at 7-Elevens here in the States!??

Actually, I poked around a bit, and I'm pretty sure it is the 7-11 convenient store chain. At least, that's what the other sites I got the info at have reported, plus I can't find mention of any other 7-11 store or in Taiwan. Whatever the case, the more places selling ipods, the better!
