The soothing music of ... your Mac's voice? |
|
Let's step back into the past for a second. Back to January 24th, 1984. At the Macintosh's original introduction, Steve Jobs said "And now, for the first time ever, I'd like to let Macintosh speak for itself." Since it's original introduction, our beloved Macintosh has had the ability to talk. Now, in 2005, most of us are used to having speech built-in. Some of the voices actually "sing" - or attempt to put a string of words in musical format. But what songs are they singing to?
Well luckily for you, I've scoured the Internet to bring you these important facts! Never again will you look like an idiot when someone asks you "hey, what song is that Cellos voice on your Mac trying to sing"? Yes, that's right your days of embarrassment are over, and you can finally hold your head high.
Now here are Apple's musical voices and the song associated with them (First):
Bad News: A Chopin Death March
Cellos: In the Hall of the Mountain King
Good News: Pomp & Circumstance
Pipe Organ: The theme to "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and "Never Laugh when a Hearse Goes By"
And sure, this is all tongue in cheek and may not be a huge facet of the Apple's history, but it is something I use on my Mac every day. Most Mac users take this ability for granted. The point of realizing all this is that you can see the the Mac has been talking for the last 21 years. Windows XP is just starting with it, and it doesn't even work well (Microsoft Sam). Besides, let's see M$ Sam say "Ken is a Big Dork" as cool as Cellos can!
