Weird News (What’s your opinion?) |
|
St. Louis, MO:
How much of a survivor is your dog? Probably not as much of one as Quentin, a thirty pound roughly year-old Basenji mix who survived the gas chambers of a St. Louis animal shelter. According to AP news, “Animal-control supervisor Rosemary Ficken had never seen such a survivor, and she didn't have the nerve to slam the door shut again.” She apparently told Randy Grim, founder and head of Stray Rescue of St. Louis, that he should please take him, she didn’t “have the heart to put him back in there and re-gas him.” Grim later said that he believed the dog was “put here to serve a higher purpose,” and that it was a “miracle” that the dog had survived.
On Wednesday, it was obvious that Quentin was malnourished, so he was well fed, taken care of, and examined by a veterinarian for heart worm and other illnesses. Leave it to humans to attempt to eradicate an animal, and then once it doesn’t die, hail it as a martyr.
Heinola, Finland:
After a heated battle between himself and three time world champion Leo Pusa, Timo Kaukonen came out as the world’s top victor in the Sauna Sitting Championships.
Apparently the average temperature in the Sauna’s of Finland is 176 degrees Fahrenheit. These guys topped out at 230 degrees Fahrenheit. The champion, Timo Kaukonen, held out in the sauna for a record time of sixteen minutes and fifteen seconds.
Wellsville, NY:
A twenty-three year old man took a cab for nearly 300 miles, from New York City to western New York (Wellsville), a hundred miles southeast of Buffalo. Once they arrived, he quickly exited the vehicle and took off as fast as he could. Police later found him hiding in a nearby apartment. He took the rap and received a charge of theft of services.
Temuco, Chile:
Chilean researchers are investigating the idea that the venom of Black Widow spider’s may be able to temporarily impede male impotence, much in the same way Viagra works, but with (surprisingly) fewer side effects. The drug that is being developed may also render sperm infertile, thereby causing the woman to not get pregnant. According to Reuters, Fernando Romero, director of the research project said, “‘we are aiming to eventually produce a drug that would have a similar effect as Viagra but without any potentially harmful side-effects such as an accelerated heart rate.’ He said they would isolate and eliminate the agents in the venom affecting the heart.”
Madrid, Spain:
Those crazy Spaniards are at it again. A twenty-one year old woman accidentally set fire to her home after she was trying to emulate a potion that Harry Potter had made in J K Rowling’s series of crappy books. Half of her home was destroyed and she nearly lost her life in an attempt to concoct magical ingredients using: toothpaste, water, oil, and alcohol.

The old pool shooter had won many a game in his life. But now it was time to hang up the cue. When he did, all the other cues came crashing to the floor. "Sorry," he said with a smile.
