 Apple Support Strikes Again
Here we are again. In case you didn't know, Apple has announced another battery recall. The affending batteries are in iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 models. If you want to see the details and if your model is affected look here.

The recall itself is not much to write home about. This sort of thing happens all of the time in the consumer electronics world.

What I want to talk about is Apple's response. It has been nothing short of stellar.

I filled out the paperwork (an online form no less) on Friday afternoon right after I heard about the recall. I have a 1.67 GHz PowerBook with 1 Gig of RAM. Don't know why I needed that detail here, but there it is.

Well, I put in my new battery this afternoon. It is charging as we speak (after the required drain period of course).

That is right. My request went in Friday and my new battery is in my PowerBook today (Monday).

That my friends is service.

I'm sad too. I wish I had a 1.67GHz Powerbook with 1G of RAM that was getting a new battery.

But yeah, that service is most impressive
:/

Discharging the old one as we speak...15 minutes to new battery!

Yah, meesa sad, too - I wish I had an Apple product that even took a battery and was made later than 2000...

I got a good battery with my PowerBook, so I'm chill. But it would be cool to get more free stuff from a computer company in the mail, seeing as how every Mountain Dew Xbox needed a new power cord, and I was one of the beautiful few to have one of those!

iKen 5/24/05, 9:16 AM EDT
Me too fuzzmanmatt, the funny part is, before I got the Mt. Dew Xbox, I got a halo xbox, and while I needed a cord for my (newer) Mt. Dew Xbox, my Halo Xbox was manuf. after the date for the cord replacement!

i placed my order of 20" ACD on April 22 and still no ACD yet, apple offers no explanation...

Jeff,

That really makes me wonder. It has been a year since they announced the new displays (well it will be in June ;-) ). The only update to hte line has been a price cut. I wonder if they will have something at WWDC. It is definately within the realm of possibility that they are depleating current stocks.

Wow that is crazy Jeff...

As for the bat-trees, me and the missus' iBooks weren't in the serial # range that's affected, but I have to say I wouldn't have really minded with the way Apple seems to be handling it.

When they admit to a problem, they really own up and take care of it the right way! I know there's some stuff they don't/can't/won't own up to, but hey, they're a company - they'd go broke if they fixed every problem every customer had with every piece of equipment. But they fix the majority of them and they do it right. Kudos to Apple.
