Apple launches iSync to woo .Mac users
For those of you who were too busy over the weekend to keep tabs on what's new in the world of Macintosh (and we don't blame ya!), Apple has released the iSync Beta. This comes on the heels of Apple extending the deadline for registering with .Mac - and most likely has everything to do with getting more .Mac users.

According to a CNET article, only 100,000 users have signed up for .Mac, while some 2.1 million former iTools users have jumped ship (or are just mastering the art of procrastination).

Plus, lots of other companies have hopped in to offer free (or in some cases cheaper) services to the former iTools users. One of them, MyiCal.com, offers free iCal publishing. Other than the virus-protection and backup software, .Mac's services just weren't that useful.

iSync changes some of that. We could debate for days over whether the .Mac services are worth the $49 for the first year (as a matter of fact there are forum threads still raging about it), but I for one thought that the services provided for iCal and iSync alone was worth it. You may not find that to be so, but what if I told you that you get the wildly popular game, Alchemy, absolutely free!? Ok, so that may not shiver yer timbers, but do you want to be able to go to Mac heaven when you die?

C'mon, pony up the $49 bucks.
