 iLife and Groundhogs Day Similar?
I had two things to look forward to in the past week iLife for free download and Groundhogs day. Since the afternoon of the expo, I was completely geeked up wanting to use these iApps. I could not wait to fix my photos in iPhoto2 and then import them into iMovie3 to use the Ken Burns effect and make wonderfully great slide shows, with awesome transitions to just wow my family and friends. If i had a Mac with a superdrive, I probably would have quit my job and spent the rest of my life creating little photo movies on DVD or something like that.

So, you can imagine my utter disappointment when the launch date of these iApps was pushed back to some date they had not yet determined. Then about six days later I happened to see an article on Think Secret that iLife was going to be available to download the next day. I once again began to write my resignation letter (actually I did write one close to that day, but that is another story, weird) and dream about these very promising iApps. All through launch day I kept checking Apple's Website impatiently waiting for these iApps to be released.

Finally, the time had come and I was able to download what I had waited so long to use. Later that night, I finally had a chance to try these applications out. I tried iPhoto2 first. I found a selection of photos that needed color and brightness corrections. I tried the first one and it worked just the way Uncle Steve said it would at the expo. I then tried the next photo which was clearly a little darker and needed to be adjusted. I pressed the Enhance button and nothing. I pressed it again still nothing. I pressed it three more times and still nothing. I thought maybe the program had froze, but i looked in the edit menu and there were all these Undo Enhance options, so it had to be working. Just for fun, I reverted to the orginal and closed iPhoto2 and reopened it. I tried the Enhance on the same photo and this time it worked. Very Strange. I had this happen a few more times, where I had to restart the program to get it to work.

I then thought I would give iMovie3 a try, and i probably used it for about 5 minutes. I tried to place some of the images i had just messed with onto the timeline. I could not stand it it took almost 2 minutes to render one photo, this would not be bad if I had all the programs I normally have open, open, but I did not. I just found iMovie3 too slow to mess with.

In conclusion, I tried to be lazy and do color correction in iPhoto2, however Photoshop is the king and it never pays to be lazy. Both of the applications have tons of promise, and I do like the addition of the trash can in iPhoto2 and the Ken Burns Effect in iMovie3. I also love the fact it is all getting integrated together.

Now you may be asking yourself, what does all of this have to do with Groundhogs Day? Well, it seems as since the groundhog saw his shadow and we have six more weeks of winter, we also have to wait for another release if iPhoto and iMovie to truely realize the dream of what iLife was supposed to be.

 Deep Thoughts
As we were driving, we saw a sign that said "Watch for Rocks." Marta said it should read "Watch for Pretty Rocks." I told her she should write in her suggestion to the highway department, but she started saying it was a joke - just to get out of writing a simple letter! And I thought I was lazy!
