 PC Pundits are Idiots
I am quite done with the PC writers who have never used a Mac, commenting on Apple's new products. In fact, if I hear one more idiot say "it's the size of four helium atoms but it lacks expandibility", I am going to reach through my monitor and beat them to death.

I can't tell you how tired I am of hearing that same argument over and over and over again. Pundits the 'Net over have been jumping over each other to say in their most intelligent tone that yes, the iPod shuffle is the size of three sticks of gum but it's main downside is that it has no screen, no FM tuner, no voice recorder no blah blah blah blah.

I just want to grab them and scream at the top of my lungs "'IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE SMALL YOU A$$HOLE!" Honestly. They utter these opinions like no one else in the world could pick up on the fact that a music player that weighs .78 ounces might actually be small.

Its almost like Apple designed it that way.

And things get no better when they review the Mac Mini. I have read countless reviews that all sound like this: "It weighs 3 pounds and fits in the palm of your hand but it doesn't have the expandability of a tower." Well, yes the tower has 5 times the volume and 7 times the mass, so whats your point?

I guess I find this rampant stupidity so hard to fathom because this parallel doesn't exist in any other industries.

Imagine if Honda released pictures of next year's Civic and commentators started saying:

"Well, it doesn't have 4 wheel drive like the new Hummer"
"Or a truck bed like my F150"
"And it can't seat 30 kids like my school bus"
"And where is the optional towing hitch like my big rig?"

Do you think Honda would say "Huh? Its a Civic, it's meant to be small. It's purpose isn't to tow boats or carry 30 kids or haul dirt like a dumptruck. Whats wrong with you morons?"

Oh wait, no, they wouldn't say anything like this because no one would say anything that dumb. Yet more "IT analysts" than you ever dreamed possible are certain that the Mac Mini is crap because it doesn't have 4 empty PCI slots.

Question: how many PCI cards do you use? All four? Just one? Ok, now how many do you think the average user uses? Zero. So, since this is aimed at the consumer why is this such a big freaking deal? I don't know either.

But you can rest assured that if Apple makes a tower bigger than all of the rest that has room for 8 PCI slots, 6 harddrives and 4 CD/DVD ROMS you know what all of the pundits will say don't you? Say it with me now:

"Its just too big. I dont' know what Apple was thinking, these other towers are much smaller. And they blah blah blah blah"

Anyway, if tommorrow on the news you hear about six dozen dead tech writers slumped over their keyboards, you know it was me.

That is awesome. I've never heard the car guys bitching as much as computer people. I sell car parts all day because it's a developed industry, and the people who get published reviews of cars know what they're talking about, and those who don't get published have a good reason. Eventually the PC industry will grow into something like this, most other industries have, but it's still really only as old as windows, and that's just now going on 25 years. Give it another 75, and most of the idiots will be dead.

That's it. Just let all the anger out. Breathe in, breathe out...

:) Nice article.

Couldn't agree more. Well said.

Some people can't see beyond their own imagination. For some reason they think that if THEY don't get it, then it must be a mistake.

Nothing but a bunch as self-centered, closed-minded, ignorant pricks If you asked me.

iTom 3/11/05, 11:20 AM EDT
Hi jstoup, I totally agree with you. But don't get angry about this idiots because all the adrenaline which you're produce will kill you. Just keep cool and let the evolution sort those idiots (and their computers) out. Hey, you can already see how weak they are. If there is a new virus out there, they will probably get an infection while updating their Micro$oft-Junk with the next Service-Pack that in fact should protect them from this virus (or malware, or spyware, or what ever...). This can't go on forever like this. Only the strong will survive, don't you know? Never heard of "Darwin"...?

cAtraXx 3/12/05, 9:16 PM EDT
Unfortunately the intention of PCs was never to survive, only to assimilate. :/

good article, well said, the future will tell

SiberTater 3/16/05, 6:06 PM EDT
Agreed! Furthermore, when you call a help line, why is the first thing Windows people say, "You should reinstall your OS?" Hello? I could do that without calling you, dumbass. Most end users don't have a Backup system. I used to hear this ALL the time when I was running WinME...now? I only use Macs.

GanyBlack 3/19/05, 12:18 AM EDT
Technically you can hook the shuffle up to an FM transmitter.
It just can't be the one by Griffin (iTrip) or the one by Monster (iCarPlay Wireless).
But if you use the one by Belkin (TuneCast II) you can use it with the shuffle.

I know that wasn't the point..... but I had to prove the idiots wrong. ^^
