Analog is the New Digital |
|
For quite a while now, Apple's iPod has been getting knocked for having low battery life and being too expensive. Well, Apple has been hard at work since the last revision of the iPod a full, er... three weeks ago. Apparently, Apple has ditched the whole "digital lifestyle" concept in favor of the more economical analog medium of storage. On top of that major paradigm shift, Apple is also allowing users to replace the next-generation iPods' batteries with batteries that are already available at nearly every gas station (only eight D batteries required)!
The storage medium? Cassette tapes. Think about it, once you're done with one side, you can flip it over and there's a whole 'nother side! It's twice as many songs! We won't dwell on this topic too long, but for anyone interested, check out faithful 2GAMAAW'er Daniel Turek's site which further breaks down how cassette tapes are better than the so-called "hard drive" based method of storage.
2GAMAAW operatives were also able to acquire a photo of the upcoming 'Pod:
With these changes to iPod, Apple hopes to quell even the harshest of critics. In fact, Apple is rumored to like this retro anti-digital strategy so much that they're applying it to other facets of their business. iLife in particular is said to have undergone immense reworking. "Virtual" instruments will be a thing of the past, as Apple will include a full one-man-band assortment of instruments for the user to wear. Steve Jobs is said to be thrilled with the sound quality and bit-rate. Apple will market the upcoming iLife under the moniker "iLife 1576" with the tagline "All of yesterday's hassles, TODAY!".

You know, sony sells a very high end cassete player with touch buttons like the iPod. It's well over $100. Quite cool, dispite tape's [doodoo]ty audio quality.

When this girl at the art museum asked me whom I liked better, Monet or Manet, I said, "I like mayonnaise." She just stared at me, so I said it again, louder. Then she left. I guess she went to try to find some mayonnaise for me.
