Algore? Inventor of the ... Apple? |
|
It's all over the net: Al Gore has joined Apple's Board of Directors. We're not going to claim to be the first to report this - heck we're not even reporting it, we're just trying to digest it. Al Gore. Wow....pretty hard to believe at first.
and I even had a joking conversation over iChat yesterday about who might fill the (then) open slot on Apple's Board. Some of the possibles included Steve Buscemi, Gary Coleman, Mr T., football commentator Beasley Reece, Norman Schwartzkopf and Jenna Jameson. I was personally hoping for Valdimir Putin and Jedbeck's favorite was Mr. Rogers (yes...postmortem...don't ask).
But come on.... Al Gore ? The guy who invented the Internet? That was beyond our wildest imagination.
But after having had a little time to think about it and do a little research it's actually a very smart move by Apple. Firstly, as I learned from this article at The Register, Al Gore never did claim to invent the Internet, but in fact played a key role in getting the fledgling Internet going by fighting for federal funds. He also has ties with the RIAA and may help Apple's rumored music service get off the ground. Plus, say what you want about the guy, but he was the Vice President fer cryin' out loud. The guy has experience at the highest level of government, probably has connections out the yin-yang and is going to be an invaluable asset in Apple's corner.
Larry Ellison, the man Gore is replacing, will be soon forgetten. Ellison's company, Oracle, doesn't even make software for the Macintosh, nor does it have plans to. Many Mac-sites have talked about the friendship betwixt Steve Jobs and Mr. Ellison, most memorably As The Apple Turns. Speaking of which, hey Jack and Katie! Start posting again soon! I mean how long can it take to get an intern up to speed? And please don't tell me 7 or 8 years! Er, but I digress. Like I was saying, Larry and Steve's friendship had to be the main reason that Larry stayed on as long as he did.
So Apple puts a once Vice President of the U.S. on it board just a day after the CRT iMacs go to war. Coincidence, or all part of some huge conspiracy? You decide.

Deep Thoughts |
|
I guess I kinda lost control, because in the middle of the play I ran up and lit the evil puppet villain on fire. No, I didn't. Just kidding. I just said that to help illustrate one of the human emotions, which is freaking out. Another emotion is greed, as when you kill someone for money, or something like that. Another emotion is generosity, as when you pay someone double what he paid for his stupid puppet.
