Give Me My Apple News Fix! |
|
Are you in a rut of depression because there hasn't been much new from Apple in the last week or so? We too are jonesing like a Mountain Dew drinker who's gone straight, but we've been able to unearth a few tiny nuggets of shiny Apple newness.
First off, it's Tuesday and you know what that means! No, it's not time to give your Uncle Charlie a luffa scrub, it's new Music Tuesday at the iTunes Music Store!
Granted it's nothing like last Tuesday, which gave us the Best of Cher, but the Music Store did add stuff such as Alanis Morissette's "Under Rug Swept", as well as stuff by Paul Oakenfold, Staind, Elvis, and The Doors. Not too shabby.
Secondly, there's a new Learning Center at .Mac. This encompasses the "How-To" HTML tutorials (including the iChat one that unwittingly revealed info about a future Apple product) as well as a new ".Mac Presents". After originally thinking .Mac was giving us presents (an iPod!?!?!?) we found that it's really just a QuickTime movie about a .Mac feature. The only movie available at print time was one about HomePage.
While the movie (and HomePage itself) is pretty simple stuff, it never ceases to amaze me how easy Apple makes it for you to do mundane things! Plus I went in thinking I knew all there was to know about HomePage, but I picked up a tip or two.
As the movie illustrates, HomePage lets you select photos in iPhoto and publish them with HomePage. Your images are automatically made into clickable thumbnails that link to the larger image. You can then edit the captions and drag the images where you want them.
The movie goes on to show you how to set up a File sharing web page, where items in your iDisk public folder show up on your page. It also briefly notes that you can create newsletters with ready-made templates, resumes, or create a site with a different editor and upload it.
So if you're ever feeling down in the dumps, and the Internet just doesn't seem new anymore, you should first remember to look on the bright side of life, but also check back at the Learning Center - as there will soon be 4 more movies: iDisk, Protect, iSync, and Anywhere Access. Granted, that's not anything nearly as cool as G5 PowerMacs, but it may help you get through the day!
