Finding Nemo - A wonderful cinematic adventure |
|
Summer Movie Season has entered this year with a bang. And I, like some of you, really look forward to this time a year. Things in general are kind of slow, people are spending more time outdoors doing recreational things, I however spend as much time as possible checking out the new movies at the local cinema. (Actually the local cinema is crap so I drive an hour to see the really popular and effects laden movies.) My guess would be that a lot of our readers are movie fans as well, so I have decided to start posting movie reviews here at 2 guys to help you enjoy your time spent away from your Mac. If you would like to see more of these let me know through the comments.
I will ease the my fellow Mac faithful into these reviews by starting off with a review of Disney and (Steve Jobs other company) Pixar's "Finding Nemo."
WARNING MINOR SPOILERS
Cast: Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres, Wilem Dafoe, Geoffrey Rush, Barry Humphries
What's It about:
"The film follows the comedic and eventful journeys of two fish - Marlin and his son Nemo - who become separated in the Great Barrier Reef when Nemo is unexpectedly taken far from home and thrust into a fish tank in a dentist's office overlooking Sydney harbor. Buoyed by the companionship of a friendly-but-forgetful fish named Dory, the overly cautious father embarks on a dangerous trek and finds himself the unlikely hero of an epic journey to rescue his son - who hatches a few daring plans of his own to return safely home." - Disney/Pixar
Review: When Pixar's smooth and life-like animation style is coupled with Disney's knack for telling a story that is fun for all ages, the result is nothing short of a total masterpiece. From animation to story this film has it all. Pixar continues to get better and better with every single film they do. In the near future, I am not sure we will be able to tell what is real and what is computer generated, if Pixar continues to exponentially improve upon it's animation techniques with each new film. There are some points through out this film where you wonder if the characters from this movie were placed on a real life background. Most of the above water shorts of Sydney, Australia look as though they are true to life photographs of the area.
Disney once again put together a great story with twists and turns that keeps the audience captivated throughout the duration of this film. This film contains all the great movie elements of action, adventure, comedy, and even emotion. These elements are established with in the first five minutes of the film and they just continue on from there.
The story opens with Marlin and his wife checking out the new place they have decided to live and raise their offspring that are just about ready to hatch. As Marlin and his wife are playfully chasing one another around the Sea Anemone when out of nowhere a Barracuda show up and goes after their eggs. Marlins' wife tries to save the eggs while Marlin tries to distract the Barracuda, but Marlin gets knocked out by the stronger fish and when he comes to, he finds that his wife and all the eggs but one have been devoured. He promises the egg that he will never let anything happen to him.
Once Nemo grows up and is sent his first day of school (get it?) he tries to be brave and show to his Dad that he can take care of himself. However, during this act of rebellion, Nemo finds himself caught by a scuba-diver and taken to be a part of an aquarium. Marlin tries desperately to catch up to the diver and the boat carrying Nemo, but he can not. Thus the journey begins where Marlin meets up with Dory, the lovable fish with a short-term memory problem, and together they try and find Nemo. The two of them set out on an adventure in which they run into sharks, jellyfish, sea turtles and lots more.
I really tried to think of a boring or slow spot in this movie, you know the moment in which you look at your watch and you beg God to end your suffering and just let you die, but I could not find a single spot in this movie where I was not captivated by something either visually or story-wise. This movie is fun for all ages. Go SEA it today. I give it 4 iMacs out of 4 iMacs.

If ya want to see a great movie (the best movie I have ever seen), rent the movie: "My Cousin Vinny". It is well worth the 5 bucks.

Yeah Wasabe, that movie is hilarious, but I suggest not to rent it. It is always on TBS or TNT, so just wait a week or two and it will be on. :)

Uh yeah, sorry... late post.
Anyway, I thought Disney's name was on it because they distributed it, not because they had any creative input? Could I be misinformed? Not likely.;p
Was an awesome movie. Got to see it in an all digital theater - was super sharp.

I remember how, in college, I got that part-time job as a circus clown, and how the children would laugh and laugh at me. I vowed, then and there, that I would get revenge.
