WWDC Aftereffects and Pontifications |

Hey howdy, we're back after a day off from Post-Keynote-Disorder. Everyone knows you've got to spend the day after a Keynote checking out all the new goodies! Probably the most impressive of which, at least visually, is iChat AV (and yes - that was a slam directed at the looks of the G5). Even though I can only use the "A" portion of iChat AV, I'm still astounded. The audio conferences are the coolest thing since Bon Jovi did the acoustic version of "Wanted Dead or Alive".
iChat AV is really tugging at my wallet...or shall I say credit card...to make me buy an iSight. Slackin and I are shuffling off to my hometown of Buffalo this weekend and we just may have to stop off at the Galleria Mall* Apple Store to get one.
Also, just a quick update, but at the WWDC keynote showing at Kenwood there was many more people than we reported (which was about 60). There was easily a hundred people there. Unfortunately we didn't get a photo of the crowd, as we were too glued to the screen to think about anything else.
This many people turning out for a developer's conference is a testament to the coolness of Apple and its products. Nobody gets geeked up about stuff like Mac users do. Not in the computer industry or any other industry for that matter. Ever see people donning their Wal-mart shirts and hanging out for hours waiting for the new Wallie-world to open? Can you imagine the scene if that ever happened and what they'd be saying? "Woohoo go Zorro-guy - slash some prices!" Chants of "We Want Walton...We want Walton!" would echo throughout the parking lot. Or, "Did you hear they just released Men's Clothing 2.0!?". Not that Wal-Mart is necessarily a bad place, I'm just using it as an example. Besides, my Mom works at one as a Dork-Reader (a.k.a Door Greeter for the Walmartly-challenged) and I wouldn't want my ears boxed.
On another note, what's up with Apple not letting anyone stream the keynote speech? Is it merely to get people into their stores in an effort to sell them stuff? After the show was over at Kenwood, one of the workers announced that old PowerMac G4's would be selling for $1299 and they mentioned the Apple Pro Card. There were no refreshments, nor any freebies. Granted, most stores don't give you something for nothing - but this is Apple we're talking about. Many of us live and breath Apple and collectively we are Apple's best sales force (No offense to the retail store workers, you guys are great!). I personally drove almost 2 hours to see the show. You'd think the tiniest token of appreciation would be shown. Even in this downturned economy, Apple could've sprung for, say, lollipops for everyone.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still happy with Apple - I just had to do my daily whining. I'll most likely be going to the next Apple shindig and hopefully I'll see you there!
* A little Western New York history. Every mall in the area was named "Such and Such Mall" for years (I.E. McKinley Mall, Eastern Hills Mall, etc.). When a big new mall came along the owners wanted to name it the "Walden Galleria". Well, technically that is the name, but don't tell Buffalonians that. It's just the Galleria Mall. Redundant yes, but it works. And it's better than saying, "I'm going to the Galleria to go shopping", because you sound either gay or French. Not that there's anything wrong with being either of those.

I didn't really like the case in the pictures, but I have to see it in person. I didn't like the mirrored drive G4's until I saw them.

I actually don't think it's bad looking per se, it's just that it doesn't really do anything for me.
But yeah iKen, final judgement should be reserved for seeing it in person. 'Course that's what I said about the flower power iMacs ;)

Deep Thoughts |

I think a cute movie idea would be about a parrot who is raised by eagles. It would be cute because the parrot can't seem to act like an eagle. After a while, though, to keep the movie from getting boring, maybe put in some pornography. Later, we see the happy parrot flying along, acting like an eagle. He see two parrots below and starts to attack, but it's his parents. Then, some more pornography.
