iTunes Coming To Windows Next Week? |
|
According to the Wall Street Journal iTunes 4, and more importantly, iTunes Music Store will be coming to Windows next week. This is big news for many reasons. The biggest one is that so far the iTunes Music Store has sold over 10 million songs, and has only been released on the Mac. Now, I don't know the exact figure, but around 5% of all computer users have Macs. Not only that, but an even smaller percentage have Macintosh computers, running Mac OS X 10.2. And even fewer have downloaded iTunes 4.
OK, so assuming the 2000 census numbers are still correct, around 58.5% of all people have a computer. And also according to the census bureau, there are approximately 292,289,859 people in the United States. Take 58.5% of that number, and you have approximately 170,389,568 people that have computers in the US ... leaving around 8,519,478 people with good enough taste to buy a Mac. Remembering that of those 8.5 million people, even fewer have downloaded music from the iTMS, they have still downloaded over 10 million songs.
Add another 168 million potential customers and see what happens.
Another bit of that article, states that Apple only makes around 10 cents per song. The article goes on to say that the iTMS's main purpose isn't necessarily to make money: "Fred Anderson, Apple's chief financial officer, has acknowledged the moneymaking opportunity of the iTunes Music Store isn't the service itself. Instead, he has said the Music Store is a 'Trojan horse' to incite interest in Apple's iPod music player"
Well, we all know that the iPod has been available for Windows for some time now. And when it was made available to Windows, it sold like hotcakes. So this is potentially a big money maker for Apple. Apple's iTunes Music Store has a lot of notoriety as well. It has been hailed as the only pay-per-download system that really works. And a lot of Windows users are excited to get a chance to try it out, especially with all the horrible services available now. Buymusic.com But even so, at 10 cents a song, the iTMS has made over a million dollars with just a fraction of the computer users. Add the Windows users, and that number is going to skyrocket.
Editors note: It now appears that we will see iTunes Music Store for windows on the 16th |

excellent now apple will finally rule the earth... uh humm.. will finally rule the download music industry. most investers feel thata downloading music service like ITM will be a booming market even when you put into consideration that independent lables are able to sell there music thru this service.

i just read this article and listen to what this guy said :
"Even if Apple opens up their music market, with more competition coming in, they'll be making less all the time," says David Dreman, head of money-management firm Dreman Value Management, who recently sold all of the Apple shares in his firm's portfolios. "No one markets as well as Dell does, so we wanted to step to the sidelines with Apple stock, at least temporarily."
did anyone pick up on that this guy is clearly trying to cover his tail. this also must be one of the guy's who said that dell is one of the most inovative computer company's.

Ah yes ... "No one markets as well as Dell does" is clearly one of the truest statements one could make. WTF?

"now apple will finally rule the earth" - Close, but they must also port their OS to i386 (WinTel) hardware and processors! Then they will rule the computer industry, and then who knows, maybe the world... it could happen.

well samurai i really hope that apple doesn't port os to wintel hardware. reason why apple would have to support so much garbage hardware the is flodding the wintels line.
i really don't want the see the day where mac os is running on an 499 wally world eMachine and breaking down after 13 months and people are screaming for steves head.
no i'll rather have apple stay the same ... maybe a larger market share to keep a better cash flow but still a great computer that is well worth the cash that you spend.

How can you marry a Windows person?
Doesn't the Bible say not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers?
I guess I should be glad because when I married my wife I was a Windows biggot and she converted me.

Well there Mr. Smarty Pants .. Guess you don't realize that you can put mp3's that you've taken off CD's you've already bought BEFORE the Music Store was around. And what are you 12 .. Get a god damn job and pay for things you buy. Sheesh..

I remember golfing with my Dad when I was young. It never really was any fun because he didn't let me use a club. He said, "Son, until you learn how to hit a 9 iron shot with your arm you'll never make it in life." Dad drank.
