My office updated! |
|
Well it was basically a no-brainer for me anyway. Good tools are out there to do this sorta thing and they work well. Just don't forget to backup your stuff. Oh, and if you're a business and go to the Apple Stores, make sure you take your business credit card because the stupid company they use for checks called VeriCheck sucks major ass.
So day one: Tuesday Nov 25 2003.
We get up to the Apple Store in Buffalo at about 5. We look around at some stuff see the new 20" iMac (the screen is HUGE) -- almost fell in love right there but I resisted and went on. So after looking around the store at all that is Apple, we found a guy to help us get our order together. So we tell the guy a dual 1.8, dual 2, a 20" and a 23". To my surprise, the guy didn't even flinch. He just said "Ok, I'll go get it for you.".
We also got a new LaCie burner 52x36x52, 2 iSights (for umm...meetings yea that's it!), Jedi Knight II (gotta ease the tension at the office don't ya?) and AppleCare. So we get all ready to check out, my boss writes the check, they call VeriCheck to confirm and then --- DENIED!
Yes my little friends, our $10,000 check got denied. As we write these kind of checks pretty much every day M-F, we were kinda stumped as to why these people rejected us. So the boss gives them a call and they say that you write checks to people who use VeriCheck to get a good rating. Well we don't use anyone that uses VeriCheck but we do write checks daily. Stupid system if you ask me, the stupid VeriCheck people even turned down the Buffalo Sabres when they were getting stuff. Gee we have a billionaire owner - lets deny them. Dumb-asses!
Anyway, so we leave the Apple Store without our stuff because we didn't have our business card with us and it's about 7:30ish now and we don't feel like driving all the way back to the office just to turn around and drive back to the Apple Store. We drop one of my bosses off at his house and get his computer so I can get the stuff off it and give his to another person in the office.
So I plug his computer into Linda's (the lady that's getting his) computer via firewire start his up in FireWire Target Disk Mode (cmd-t) and use Disk Utility to erase his HD and Carbon Copy Cloner to copy an exact copy of her HD to his. What's that you say? I didn't back his up before totally annihilating it? Yes kids that's right. Even us gurus mess up sometimes. Good thing he had nothing on it :). So that gets done and I go to bed because there is nothing else to do with any of them since we don't have the other computers as of yet.
So day number B. We go back to the Apple Store, get the computers and head back to the office. I unpack all the stuff and use Carbon Copy Cloner on all the machines and voila: all done. Everything is exactly the same on the new machines as the old. Pretty neat huh? Try THAT with your stinkin' Winders! Oh wait this is a Mac site.. umm ... yea. |

Their vericheck system sucks ass - plain and simple. Went in there in Jan to spend $1500 and my checkcard didn't go through ($25k in tht account) and than Vericheck was a huge pain in the butt.

My daughter couldn't decide if she wanted to get a hamster, a gerbil, or a guinea pig. I told her we should get a gerbil because they are easier to de-bone and hamsters are all dark meat.
