Comcast Offers to Buy Disney |
|
Once in a while the 2GAMAAW crew stumbles across a piece of news that has yet to hit some of the big boy news sites (even a blind dog gets a bone now and then). In the interest of keeping people informed, plus the fact that opinion/humor articles take much longer to write than news snippets, we thought we'd post this. Don't worry, we'll keep the fishticks and nonsense articles coming, but we may be posting a straight up news piece from time-to-time. Feel free to comment in the normal 2GAMAAW vein.
According to a Reuters report, cable company Comcast has put in an unsolicted bid to buy Disney for over US$54 billion:
"Comcast said it was making its unsolicited proposal public after Disney Chief Executive Michael Eisner declined to enter discussions."
The offer comes as dissident former directors Roy Disney, the nephew of company founder Walt Disney, and Stanley Gold, are trying to oust Eisner, whom they accuse of mismanaging Disney over the past decade. Roy Disney has been lobbying institutional shareholders to vote against the reelection of Eisner and three other directors at the upcoming shareholders meeting early next month.
...
'The Disney board is under tremendous pressure from former dissident members Roy Disney and his supporters, which would indicate that the board may be receptive to this buyout offer,' said Timothy Ghriskey, portfolio manager with Ghriskey Capital Partners."
Of course, for Apple fans, this may have other implications, what with the recent scuttlebutt that Steve Jobs may be a candidate to run Disney.

pixar should simply become their own entity produce it's own movies from concept to production and take credit and profits for itself. Disney is a dying entity and frankly i dont mind seeing ot go. this is not the image walt would have wanted to have conveyed. disney has become corrupt and once were rid of it that leaves room for smaller upstart places in the market and maybe just maybe a movie will come out that actually has a plot is funny for all ages and doesnt see the need for so much sexuality. Shrek is the best example of this i can think of granted it has the romantic aspects but it does not dwell or even dedicate much time to it it remains a minor subplot. this is why pixar is sucha a success. Good bye disney!

I don't think Disney is going anywhere. Disney is as American as apple pie... or draft dodging.

If I ever opened a trampoline store, I don't think I'd call it Trampo-Land, because you might think it was a store for tramps, which is not the inpression we are trying to convey with our store. On the other hand, we would not prohibit tramps from browsing, or testing the trampolines, unless a tramp's gyrations seemed to be getting out of control.
