 Own A Piece Of History
I think every Mac nut has heard about Virginia Tech's super computer. And I would imagine most people who know about said super computer know that VT is switching out the G5 Towers for the new Xserves, right? Well, that's going to leave 1,100 slightly used Dual 2 Ghz G5's, and now you can own one of them.

MacMall is offering these beasts up for $2,799 with an extra 512MB RAM. (Click the link for more details) That is $200 less than a brand new one, and they are Apple certified refurbished. (Whatever the hell that means.)

Plus you get the distinct honor of owning a part of history. Just think of the Bumper sticker you could get. "My computer is 1/1,100th of the 3rd largest super computer in the world". OR - buy two, use Xgrid to use them together, and change that to "My computer is 1/550th of the 3rd largest super computer in the world". Just think of how many chicks you still wouldn't be able to pick up with that on your car!

In a related story, 2 Guys is holding a fund raiser to help with server costs. We hope to raise $2,799 plus shipping and handling.

What are we, made out of money and fishsticks?

I think if anyone was planning to get a G5, but was waiting for a good deal, now's your chance. The G5 is slick, man, like a greased turd.

Hey, fishticks don't grow on trees, but money does!

Maybe my place of work will get me one of those G5's ... hmmmmmmmmmmm.....

Yeah, I NEED something faster than a dual G5. I NEED a Gig of RAM. I NEED a rocket ship to the moon. Hell, I'd be happy with something that isn't still tangerine.

I think that having one of these computers would be great. not every day you can own part of a supercomputer that been discussed and tested by the top professionals in the computer business. I think this would be a great investment for someone shopping for G5 right now.

If the Vikings were around today, they would probably be amazed at how much glow-in-the-dark stuff we have, and how we take so much of it for granted.
