OK, so I bet you wanna know which one wins. Well I'll tell you before we even get started the G3 won every single test. And Apple is really owned by Microsoft. Hahaha.. ok that made me laugh. So anyway, I ran some tests on how many QuickTime movies I could play at once without losing frames. And then I ran CineBench for kicks. Ok as I'm writing this I'm doing the tests so if I go a bit off track don't yell at me. So I tested out the G5 first.
The first thing I did was find a trailer from Apple's site and I picked Bad Santa. It's a 24MB movie and then I duplicated it 10 times. On the G5 it took about 5 seconds to make the 10 copies so I opend them up and made them all loop and played them. It ran 10 movies perfectly fine with no frame loss. I was utterly amazed. The G4 took about 20 seconds to copy the 10 movies and could only play 5 without loosing frames. The G3 took about 30 seconds and could only play 2 movies. Now as I was curious as to what the processors were doing I took a trip to the terminal while the movies were playing, and to my suprise no sluggishness zooming open the dock and opening terminal. Why you ask? Because the processors were only working at 50% and less sometimes. So the hard drive must be the bottleneck. Happend the same way on the G4 50% usage. On the G3 I don't know cause it's still running OS 9.
This was my first time running CineBench so I don't know if you can make stuff faster or whatnot but I just ran it and here are the results(Note: I have no idea what these numbers mean):
G5: Rendering (Single CPU): 287 CB-CPU
Rendering (Multiple CPU): 511 CB-CPU
Multiprocessor Speedup: 1.78
Shading (CINEMA 4D) : 276 CB-GFX
Shading (OpenGL Software Lighting) : 763 CB-GFX
Shading (OpenGL Hardware Lighting) : 1343 CB-GFX
OpenGL Speedup: 4.86
The G5 Renderd a Picture. I'm running top (because for some reason Apple took away CPU monitor or put it somewhere where I haven't found it yet) which takes alot of the cpu up so these times would be faster if CineBench were the only thing running.
Single Render Time: 92.7sec
Dual Render Time: 55.9 sec
G3: Well these tests can't be shown because the program blew up as I was running it. Not enough memory .. :(
However you can see what the difference is from the G4 to the G5. It's pretty insane. And I like it :)
If you have something you want me to test out just let me know and I'll see if I can get it done.

G5 is just an awesome machine that is just going to get better as time goes on ... besides Microsoft's Computer (XBOX) is using the same processor (wonder why) for there machine.... IBM is making the processor that will send us flying into the future and Apple's OSX is the best operating system that will run these machines without question.

The Xbox uses a celeron, it actually runs a version of windows, so it would have to be X86.

M$ has just licenced a proccesor from IBM for the XBOX 2 is what rlhamon is talking about I believe and yes I'm thinking its the G5..but it also could be a G3 for networking too who knows..

I have a G5 and it is faster than Marlon Brando at a pie eating contest, and I think that's pretty fast. I love that fact that I can download movies, music and burn a cd at the same time as I'm chatting with iChat AV and surfing the 2guys forums. As far as the XBox going powerPC, more power (get it) to 'em.

Doesn't the Gamecube already use a PowerPC architecture? And didn't IBM develop the proccesor for the Gamecube too?
Very sneaky on Microsoft's part.

Yes the GameCube does use a modified PowerPC G3 called 'Gekko'. I'm not sure who they get them from but I would guess IBM.

I know the original Playstation used a motorola ppc chip... does the PS2?

This one time I put on HUGE pants that would fit a 450 lb. guy and some suspenders. I went to a fitness club and got all sweaty in the sauna. When I came out I told everyone I fell asleep in there.
