 AppleFest '04
This past weekend was a blast! When we first learned of an Applefest right down the road from 2GAMAAW headquarters, we were thilled to the core (ha-ha), and knew we had to attend and give the Mac Web first-hand coverage of the event. For those that haven't heard of it (and I don't know how you could have missed it, really) it was the annual Apple Festival in New Paris, Ohio.

Upon arrival, we bounded out of the car, eager to check out the various booths and Macs that would no doubt be present. None of the booths had Macs displayed though; they were probably below the counter or something for fear of theft, but that didn't diminish our excitement. We interviewed various of the Apple faithful, with a "How many Macs do you own?" and "How fast is your Apple?". Drawing puzzled looks and uncomittal responses, we ventured forward, past a "Candy Apple" booth, most likely displaying the wonderous look and feel of OS X.

People kept saying that Apples were all over the place, and apparently for sale on the cheap. When told that we could buy a dozen for just a couple bucks, we figured most of them must be very low-end, possibly Mac SE's or something.

Anyhow, it was just then that we heard a commotion and saw people "bobbing for Apples". We rushed over to rescue them only to find out it was some type of childish prank: there were merely some red sort of fruits in the bucket. After severely admonishing the crowd about even jokingly drowning Macs, we headed on over to the Apple pie bakeoff for what was no doubt a benchmarking test between Macs and PC's. We never did make it to the benchmark competition though because we encountered some type of fruit-filled circular pastry that was to die for.

We then split up, with me entering the Hold'em Poker tournament. I was out pretty quickly, having moved all-in on my 2-7 offsuit on the first hand. But hey, I don't think I played bad, luck was just not with me. Meanwhile, iKen bought up all the remaining tickets to win a chance to have dinner with the Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders, and rlhamon rambled off and joined the barbershop quartet for a few songs.

While we didn't get a whole lot of Apple swag, it was still a great festival. The lack of Apple's presence hampered the festivities a bit, but perhaps next year they'll decide to get a booth. The enormitude of the Apple Festival here in rural Ohio cannot be ignored by Cupertino. Perhaps MacWorld Expo in Boston would even consider moving to join with the burgeoning Apple Festival? We can only hope.

I like to have intercourse with fruit filled circular pastry. Although not as tasty as Shannon Elizabeth, I must say.

WOW there are a lot more Apple Festivals than Apple seems to want to let on. There was just another one here in Lima, OH.

Some sort of grass-roots groundswell for Apple and it's products methinks.

It's funny, you never hear of a "Microsoft-fest". Ha- eat that Bill!!!!

Instead of trying to build newer and bigger weapons of destruction, we should be thinking about getting more use out of the ones we already have.
