Review: Apple Training Series: iLife 05
iLife is one of those products that changes the way we do things. It is a product that can enable it's user to create something truly great. But truly great results will only occur if that user knows how to use the software. Apple is great at making software that is simple and intuitive to use, but even so, creating projects with iLife can become overwhelming. Michael Rubin's book iLife '05 helps demystify this product allowing the user to create projects with professional looking results.

"Apple Training Series: iLife 05" is the only Apple Certified book on iLife '05, and could be used for a class on iLife. It comes with an accompanying DVD with the files used in the lessons. The book suggests copying the files from the DVD to your hard drive. But be careful, the DVD contains almost 4 GB of data, and will eat a lot of space on the had drive. Copying files, as needed, is a much wiser option.

The lessons are very well laid out, assuming no prior knowledge of the software. There are full color illustrations, and each lesson has a short summary at the end. The lessons cover a broad range of topics, not only covering the different applications, but also things such as how to play your iPod over a home stereo. The author even goes beyond just teaching the software, and teaches how to produce professional looking projects. For instance in the chapter on filming with a camcorder, the author explains how to take the shots that will produce the best results; how to hold the camera, the best position for your shot, and common mistakes to avoid.

This book goes above and beyond teaching software, and does it in a very friendly and interesting manner. It will teach you to use the software to create projects you never imagined were possible, and everyone from the complete novice, to the most advanced user will find something in this book they never knew how to do, or never thought of. I would highly recommend it, and I give it 5 out of 5 pants.

Last paragraph, first sentence: manor should be manner. Unless I am badly misunderstanding the intent of the sentence. ;)

Step: Thanks, the mistake has been corrected. I guess that is what I get for writing a review so late. :)

Great job iKen. I am a big fan of the Apple Training Series books. The GarageBand 2 book is really good too. I have Robin Williams' Mac OS X Tiger book too. The color screen shots really help a lot when you are trying to learn a new application.

Whenever someone asks me to define love, I usually think for a minute, then I spin around and pin the guy's arm behind his back. Now who's asking the questions?
