G5 Murderer Declared Innocent - Film At 5
According to MacSlash, the G5 butcher job we mentioned on Wednesday was a hoax (good call dab2!). If you visit the original page (you may have to try a few times, the site is really busy), you'll see it's been updated with a confession:

"I have been feeling a little guilty about causing so many people out there to have nightmares, depression and sickness from my little joke. The reaction of people word wide [sic] has blown me away. I never intended for such a thing to happen ... The G5 is amazing, I would never dream of really doing that"

Apparently the guy got an empty G5 case and decided to pull a prank on his Mac-using friend and then submitted it to overclockers.com as an actual article. Needless to say, it's been one of their more popular articles, even causing the site to not be available at times.

So many of us were duped, but at least we can rest easy - no Mac was harmed in this instance.

However, other Macs are no quite as fortunate, some are abandoned at garage sales or school auctions, while other innocent Macs are sickeningly [Warning - do not click these links if easily sickened] dropped from bridges or lit on fire.

Ugh...

That's why today we are announcing the Save-a-Mac foundation. For as little as 30¢ (US) a day you can sponsor your very own Mac. Every month you'll receive an update on your cute and cuddly Macintosh, and premium sponsors can even iChat with the Mac's parents and will be sent daily pictures via email. So for just the price of a cup of coffee a day, you can save the life of a Mac.

Have you hugged your Mac today?

Hugged my Mac? Why, I attached an external FDD and ...

Never mind.

Incidentally, I'm glad this story turned out to be a hoax, and doubly glad that you guys didn't get sucked in by it.

Oh, wait. That's right. You *did* get sucked in by it!

Fwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Fwahahahahahahahaha ... eeeeurk!

Dang! Dung beetle just flew into my mouth!

Hmm! Crunchy and strangely delicious ...

My prediction: This guy will be hunted down and threatened with his life much like the guy who blocked the Cub's fielder from catching that foul ball.

got a brand new mac G5 07-17-04 and it lasted 8 hours then gave major processor errors after running the hardware test software. the apple local store has done a horrlble job of trying to fix it . they have it now for 2 weeks and keep replacing a cpu. the dumbass tech has takin 3 days to install a processor then complains that he cant get the heatsink installed properly. ( why dont these guys rtfm's.)IT makes you wonder where they get their training? I've replaced IBM laptop processors without a glitch, rebuilt many macs all the way back to the modle 7100.
Im have been on the phone with apple customer relations trying to get a replacement and they keep trying to avoid that option. I mean, here is how i see it : this is brand new machine 2 weeks old and they cant replace it ? If you purchased a new machine and it had all these major problems would you want a lame tech working on your machine? You know guys like this should pursue another carrier.

I may never buy another mac after i get this resolved. apple charges top dollar compared to the cost of building a good pc and service stinks.
