 3-2-1 Lawsuit!
Remember back in 1999 when Apple was granted an injunction to stop the iMac rip-off's? Too long ago for you to remember? Then how about the iPod Shuffle knock-off that Apple stopped a couple months ago? How about all of the other unmentioned Apple knock off's that Apple has stopped in the past? How many questions can I ask at the beginning of this article?

Please welcome the newest entry in to the fine catagory of Apple knock-off's; the Mac Mini knock off. The tech specs and price point of this machine are unknown, but a quote from the article sums it up best: ""The Pentium M and Windows XP are pretty expensive components. It would be hard to hit the Mac mini's $499 price point with that combo," wrote IDC's Kay."

I don't know why people refuse to learn, but this is an obvious rip off. Apple will have their lawyers on this faster than you can say "antidisestablishmentarinism" Why even bother spending the R&D man hours just to rip Apple's design off?

iKen, you have to remember that we are dealing with PC weenies here. They don't ever learn anything.

being that its a pc i think that qualifies as a 10% change it could be argued form factor is an ever evolving subjuct and apple can patent a sqaure box.

okcalla 5/31/05, 10:29 PM EDT
can't patent a square box.

sorry

True, you can't patent a 'square box'. However, the design is more than this. There's the measurements. The design of the connection panel on the back, the CD slot. All the little things add up.

To be honest, it really is just quite depressing to look at. I like the way they have to do a PowerMac G5 style job with the top in order to keep it cool.

I can also take delicious irony in the fact that it probably will be more expensive!

Oh, and if it does have any kind of success, then hopefully, it will at least force Apple to ship more RAM/better graphics card with the mini

You don't have to patent the square box to have protection under the law.

The Mac Mini has a certain trade dress (look, feel, function)

They will be protected just the same as they were with the eMachines eOne ripoff.

I bet there'll be people saying that the rip-off came out before the Mac mini. PC weenies...ha! I actually get called a "PC basher" by some. Hilarious.

If you're a horse, and someone gets on you, and falls off, and then gets right back on you, I think you should buck him off right away.
